6061 Aluminum Coil
6061 is one of the most common alloys of aluminum in use today and was first developed back in the 1930s. Originally known as ‘Alloy 61s’, 6061 is made today with over 95% aluminum along with major alloying elements magnesium and silicon. Its unique properties like strong corrosion resistance, excellent welding characteristics, and other good mechanical properties place our alloy 6061 coils in high demand.
Inquivix Technologies 6061 coils produced at our rolling facility can be delivered to the customer’s specified width, gauge, tempered grade, and surface coating. Apart from rolled coils, alloy 6061 is also commonly extruded, allowing us to deliver the products in the specific cross-sectional profile our customers require. 6061 coils with their excellent workability are used by our customers to manufacture everything from aircraft structures to aluminum cans.

Material Properties Of Aluminum Alloy 6061 Coil
Good Corrosion Resistance
The 6000 series has some of the best corrosion resistance among aluminum alloys. 6061 remains resistant even when the surface is abraded. This makes our 6061 coils perfect for marine, and especially saltwater applications. It can also be exposed to the atmosphere without risk of corrosion.
Excellent Interface Characteristics
The surface of the 6061 coils can be anodized through an electrochemical process to make them more durable. Since the anodized layer is not a painted coating, it will not chip or peel off. This further improves the 6061 coil’s already impressive resistance to corrosion. Our 6061 coils can be anodized in the color and texture of your choice to get the appearance you desire.
Can Undergo Heat Treatment
6061 is a precipitation-hardened aluminum alloy, which means that 6061 coils can undergo heat treatment to increase their strength. It can also undergo various levels of tempering to improve ductility and workability. Tempering also reduces the stresses introduced during hardening. Our 6061 coils are available in pre-tempered grades such as 6061-O (annealed), or tempered grades like 6061-T6.
Exhibits Good Weldability
Our 6061 coils show great welding performance so that customers don’t need to worry about the structural integrity of the weld joints. While the material does lose some of its strength during welding, it can be processed afterward through heat treatment and artificial aging to restore some of the lost strength.
6061 Is Easily Recyclable
One of the great things about aluminum in general is that it can be recycled, and 6061 coils are no exception. This allows us to reuse the new scrap left over from the aluminum rolling processes, which can be recycled in an environmentally safe and sustainable manner.
High Strength And Low Weight
Some of the most valued qualities of aluminum 6061 coil are its impressive structural strength and hardness. It exhibits no deformation after processing. Alloy 6061 is not a dense material compared to something like steel, which makes it very lightweight in comparison. These qualities are what make our 6061 coils perfect for building anything from small utility boats to amateur aircraft parts. Commercial or military aircraft will instead opt for the stronger 2024 alloy.
