While 3003 aluminum alloy is not suitable for heat treatments but can be strengthened with cold working. 3003 aluminum is commonly used in fuel tanks and sheet metal work such as radiators, heat shields, roofing, and siding.

However, if desired, it can be cold-worked to increase its power even further. By rolling and hammering, 3003 aluminum can be transformed into tempered materials which have enhanced strength yet decreased ductility. These tempers are designated based on the technique used during hardening.
